Proof of where you were · Day by day · No account

They will ask where you were.
Have it proofed.

A residency audit, a Schengen border check, a health-card renewal: each one asks you to prove where you were, and for how long. Proofstay records every day on your iPhone, proofs it the moment it's recorded, and turns any period into evidence you can hand over.

What is Proofstay?

Proofstay is an iPhone app that proves where you were and for how long. It records the country, US state or Canadian province you are in each day, keeps every record in an append-only, hash-chained log so later changes show, and exports any period as a day-by-day evidence report with sources, photos and your signature. Because it has the days, it also counts them against the residency and visa rules that apply to you. Everything stays on the device, with optional backup to your own iCloud.

Who has to prove where they were

One record. Every question that ends in a letter.

The same proof answers different questions. Pick yours, and Proofstay also shows how close you are to the limit, and the date you need to know.

What makes it proof, not just a count

Recorded the day it happened. Proofed so it can't be quietly rewritten.

Free

Automatic day log

An approximate location, about 1 km, when you open the app. Never continuous GPS, so your battery doesn't notice.

Free

Years back, from photos

The date and place of your photos rebuild past days in a minute. A small copy of one photo per day is kept for the report.

Free

Proofed as it happens

Each entry carries the fingerprint of the one before. Change or delete anything and the chain breaks where it happened.

Free

Every rule, every date

All rule cards with days used, days left and key dates. Days near a border are flagged for a one-tap answer.

Plus

Plan before you book

Add a trip and see each rule's number before and after. Alerts at 14, 7 and 3 days before a limit.

Plus

Border mode

One clear screen for an officer: your entries and exits, days used, and the tickets behind them.

Plus

It was you, not just your phone

Face ID checks, random-day selfie checks you can take any time that day, and check-in photos with a precise location.

Plus

Tickets, tolls, receipts

Attach the paper trail to the day it belongs to. Each file is fingerprinted into the log.

Any period, day by day, every source shown, photos as evidence, your signature on the last page.

Plus

Your iCloud, timestamped

Backup to your private iCloud. Apple's servers timestamp each proof, outside your phone.

Free

CSV and the raw proofed log, any time, paid or not. Your days are yours.

Free

Built for battery

No background GPS, no polling, no trackers. One quick, low-power location fix at most once an hour.

How it works

Three steps. The second one you barely notice.

  1. 01

Tell it what you may need to prove

Time in Europe, a state you left, the UK, a snowbird winter, or every country. Add the facts a phone can't measure, like your UK ties. Then scan your photos: last year appears in a minute.

  2. 02

    Live normally

Open the app now and then. Proofstay notes the country or state, flags days near a border, and proofs each entry the moment it's recorded. Planned trips show their effect before you book.

  3. 03

    Proof and send

Pick a period, review the photos it picked for you, sign, and share a PDF with the log file. Anyone can recompute the fingerprints. No one needs to trust us.

What an auditor gets

We don't ask you to trust us. We ask them to check.

The report is built for the person on the other side of the desk: a summary per rule, how each day was recorded, every day near a border, a day-by-day table, photo evidence with time and place, and your signed declaration.

At the end, the proof record. Recompute the SHA-256 of the log file and it must match. Every entry's hash can be rebuilt from the one before. With iCloud backup, Apple's own server clock dates the last proof.

Proofstay is a record-keeping tool, not tax or legal advice. Rules have parts a day count can't capture; your adviser decides how to use the report.

March 2028

A letter from New York State.

You moved to Florida in 2026. The auditor wants every day you spent in New York that year. More than 183, with a home there, makes you a resident, and the tax follows.

Without a record

Three weekends with bank statements, phone bills and old photos. Gaps you can't fill. Days counted against you because you can't show where you were.

With Proofstay

Open the app, pick 2026, Proof & create. Every day accounted for, the source of each one, the trips with tickets attached, signed and proofed. Done before your coffee cools.

Pricing

Free to record. Pay to prove.

A day not recorded can never be proved later, so recording is free, for every rule, forever.

FAQ

Questions people ask before an audit

Will a tax office or border officer accept the report?

Proofstay can't promise that; each authority weighs evidence its own way. What it gives you is what auditors ask for: day-by-day records made at the time, the source of each day, independent evidence like tickets and photos, and a log that shows any change. Ask your adviser how to submit it.

Does it drain my battery?

No. It takes one approximate location fix when you open the app, at most once an hour, and never runs continuous GPS. Photo history is read once, from photo metadata.

Can you see where I've been?

No. There is no account and no server holding your data. Your days stay on your iPhone, and in your own private iCloud if you turn on backup. Read the privacy policy.

What if I forget to open the app for a while?

Days without a record are shown as gaps, never guessed. You can fill them from photos, from tickets, or by hand, and the report shows which is which and when it was entered.

How does Proofstay count a day?

Any part of a day in a place counts for that place, as Schengen, US and most state rules require. The UK Statutory Residence Test counts midnights instead, and Proofstay counts it that way. Each rule's method is printed in the report.

What happens if I stop paying for Plus?

Recording, every rule card and export keep working. Only Plus features stop. Restoring from an iCloud backup works with or without Plus.

Is the Schengen count the same as the EU's?

Yes. It is tested against the European Commission's short-stay calculator, including entry and exit days and which countries are inside the area.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Proofstay is iPhone only for now.
